BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY:
Provides spiritual, physical and moral support to families experiencing the loss of a loved one. Assist in the preparation of the funeral liturgy, family participation in the mass, and if wanted, a rosary service at the funeral home. Members may also be called upon to read during the service if family members are unable. Provides food after the service and maintains contact with the family. Contact: Jo Ann Webre
STM MANNA GIVERS MINISTRY:
Teams of volunteers cook and serve an evening meal at one of the three St. Vincent de Paul / Bishop Ott shelter location for homeless men, women and children since there are no kitchen facilities at the shelters. Most teams serve once a month; some every other month. Contact: Dane and Bipsy D'Aquin
BLOOD ASSURANCE PROGRAM:
STM parishioners are covered by a blood assurance program administered by the blood bank at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. Blood drives take place twice a year. Contact: Art Landry
PARISH FOOD DELIVERY:
Transport food collected in the vestibule of the Church to St. Paul's Center. Contact: Joe Macaluso
PRISON MINISTRY:
The Baton Rouge diocese runs a prison ministry program to help provide for the physical, spiritual, social and educational needs of inmates in our correctional institutions. Contact: Jim Pitchford
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CONFERENCE:
Serves the needy in our parish area. Volunteers committed to this ministry work in teams to visit and talk with the needy in an effort to find solutions to the problems many of them face and to provide for them the basic necessities of living. Contact: Henry Guidry
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS:
Formed in order to be better prepared when our facilities are used as a shelter during a disaster, including loading and unloading supplies, entertainment and religious activities, donations of food and goods, electrical needs and security, and other activities as needed. Contact: Mark Jurey
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:
Works to eliminate poverty housing and make affordable, decent housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat builds and renovates houses, working together with the future homeowners to improve living conditions and help foster a sense of community. Contact: Jerry Campbell
HOSPITAL MINISTRY:
Volunteers are assigned to visit parishioners in one hospital, OLOL, Baton Rouge General Mid-City or Bluebonnet, once every three or four weeks. These visits are made on Monday, Wednesday or Friday and generally last no more than 5 – 10 minutes per patient. Contact: Suzanne Lavergne
NURSING HOME MINISTRY:
At The Care Center and Capitol House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, volunteers assist with Mass and Communion for residents twice a week and Anointing of the Sick when possible. The ministry also hosts five holiday parties each year for the residents. Contact: Capitol House - Irene Gyan ; The Care Center - Virgie Navo
RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE:
Raise the consciousness of the parish on life issues that impact the Christian community. Through prayer, education and political action, the committee encourages personal involvement in restoring the respect for all life. Contact: Aimee Marlborough
RETROUVAILLE of B.R.:
Designed to help couples experiencing serious difficulties in their marriages. It consists of a weekend of deep and concentrated communication between spouses, in accordance with a prescribed outline presented by a team of three couples and a priest. Six follow-up sessions introduce additional tools to help hurting couples rebuild the trust and communication in their marriage, making God the center of their sacramental relationship.
